Currently Obsessed With...

...anything the color

After reading the Refinery 29 article Made In The Shade: Hot Pink, I couldn't help but make my Currently Obsessed With page a new post. So here it is!

I don't think that I have ever liked the color pink as much as I do now! Except for maybe when I was about five and even then pink was quickly replaced by the color blue when I realized that one's favorite color was not ruled by one's sex. But I digress...

I'm not sure if it's the amount of blush tones that are more and more in my face of late, or the fact that Erie, PA is a very grey scale type of place in the winter causing one to crave a splash of color somewhere towards the end of the season, but with Spring officially here and the weather starting to turn a little less grey (not much mind you) I just can't get enough pink!

The best part about the spring trends this year is that the lovely bold color is not found just in the apparel. While the color is growing on me, I am still not at a point where I would like to cover a large portion of my body in it. I have one "hot pink" short sleeved sweater that I like to bust out with a black school girl skirt and black jewelry for when I feel like looking like a graphic. But other than that, not much pink the wardrobe. That is until this season! I've been skipping the color blocked tops and going right for the accessories and beauty products! And I'm not just stopping there for some reason...I have also been attracted to pink notebooks, pink office supplies, and even pink tea!

And with that I would like to present the color

Fist off I would like to share something most every women and girl has always loved...The classic french manicure! I have been obsessed with the ridiculous amount of different shades of pink that Essie offers. While I love the classic french manicure, I couldn't be more excited to try it out in a billion different shades! The best part about all these beautiful pink tones is that you can wear them by themselves without any tips. My favorite way to wear these polishes of late is by using "Ballet Slippers" as my base coat and then using "Licorice" for the tips. This was before a couple of weeks ago when I bit all my nails off btw. So right now I have just been using a couple of coats of "ballet Slippers" over my entire nail bed.

Here are some of my favs...

Nextly, still in the tune to cosmetics, I would like to share my lipstick fav at the moment. I have been wearing M.A.C. Impassioned from their Amplified line. It's a wonderfully bright pink that actually works with my lighter skin tone. It's also long-lasting and stays quite even, which is really nice for a bright bold lip color. I happened to love some of these bright bold M.A.C. products so much that I used them for one of my still life portfolio shoots that I like to call "M.A.C. Splat". Here is one of my images...

Here is another image from my "M.A.C. Splat" series of an eye shadow (Passionate) that I also adore...

Another thing I am currently obsessed with are all the spring Kate Spade bags! P.S. Good luck finding the Essex Scout bag, especially in pink! Highly coveted!

Another pink item I positively adore are this fantastic pens and pencils from Iomoi. I think office aesthetics are important. If you are going to be spending a good chunk of the day in one, then it should pleasing for the senses. Once I have a more permanent office space I'm definitely ordering some of these!

Pink denim! Yessssss...could be super cute with a simple white tee, some flat sandals, and a large clutch to class things up a bit. P.S. I'm planning a D.I.Y. clutch!

One more piece of pink that I'm loving in my life are my Moleskin notebooks. They look so lovely sitting on my desk that I can't help but to be inspired to write down new ideas. Like I mentioned before, office aesthetics are a must!

I'd love to here about some other amazing pink items out there, so hit me up with some comments!

Summer Brights

So for months now I have been dying to see some color somewhere in my life. Erie winters are harsh, grey, and very long. Just to help illustrate the point I will mention that the trees have only just begun to bud. It's awful! Needless to say I have been staring at brightly colored accessories since pre-fashion week, and because today I was feeling particularly more grey than usual I decided to do a post with some color.

I saved some images from one of my favorite street photographers Nam. His website is STREETFSN. Here are a few images that I remember calling out to me... saying things like, "You really need to get yourself a bright, structured bag. If you get one spring will come!"

So of course what do I do? I run out ( i.e. get online ) and get myself a bag! I would have loved a Celine clutch, but settled for a Kate Spade tote instead. Poor me :)  Here she is in all her red glory...

Test shot from a still life project currently in the works

I have been carrying her, but apparently not enough. Spring is barely here and it is unusually late even for Erie. My wardrobe has been filling up with warm weather apparel and spring and summer fashions and I don't know when I will get to wear them!

On another note, I will be sharing some second hand and vintage birthday gifts soon. Also, my Inspiration projects are still underway!

Get Real!

So excuse me for a second while I just get real! I am taking a moment to share photographically one of my most perfect goof off afternoons. This perfect goof off day was captured in Ohio while house sitting for Tom's parents. Note the essential elements for maximum goof off enjoyment; a laptop, some gardening magazines, photo gear, and most importantly coffee! Also note the comfy, but cute sweater, the messy hair, and some hot pink lipstick to keep it fancy!

This has been a Real Me moment :)

Inspiration

Lately I have been really into thrifting and reusing some items that I thought were well on their way to the "Donation Bag". Here is a small collage of some pieces that have inspired me to work on a few new D.I.Y. projects...

Reebok printed sneakers, Meadham Kirchhoff printed jackets, Isabel Marant denim,
studded clutch from U.O., closeup of different embellishments, and Balmain cutoff shorts.

Obviously I will not be attempting to remake a badass Balmain leather jacket, but I do have some white denim, an old-school pair of Puma basketball sneakers, and an old clutch laying around. If interested, you'd better stay tuned!

Casual Dress Still Requires Pants

So most people that know me even remotely well should understand the title of this post. One of my few, yet biggest, pet-peaves about the way other people dress is sweatpants. I'm not even going to begin discussing any form of pajamas! Short of being on your way to or from the gym or participating in an athletic endeavor, there is hardly an occasion that makes wearing sweatpants in public acceptable. I am also considering college campuses to be a grey area because this pet-peave of mine pertains to adults and I'm not sure what college students are yet. Regardless, all I'm saying is that people should wear pants if they intend to leave their home!

Casual activities and casual dress can be both attractive and whats the other word I'm thinking of...casual! A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and I participated in an extremely casual activity...

...bowling!

We both chose to wear, as we most often do, the most classically casual of all apparel, jeans. I am wearing a pair of Seven jeans, a Brooks Brothers boys button-down and tie, and my earrings were made by Tom's aunt out of salvaged antique jewelry parts. Tom is wearing Diesel jeans and an American Apparel flannel. We are both sporting some amazing shoes that the bowling alley was generous enough to lend to us. Here are more snap shots that were taken by both of us...

Wasn't that bowling alley fantastic! Tom tried to prepare me for it, but I was still shocked at how awesome the decor was! Mostly I was obsessed with the rug. Somehow, we both managed to dress in a similar color palette to the bowling alley. Weird!

Back to the point...the moral of this story is that we had a fun, relaxing evening at a casual venue while managing to wear real pants!
