Inspiration: Motorcycle Jackets

Nothing is a better inspiration pick-me-up than scrolling through photos at STREETFSN. Lately I have been wanting to return to my very first original "look" and these photos from Nam are even more of a reminder of why I love the "tough girl" vibe.

Sleek, dark outfits with beat up combat boots and slicked back hair was my very first successful fashion statement. I felt so comfortable yet still edgy. Lately, I have been donning boots over heels and wearing my new motorcycle jacket almost everyday. This time around I have learned to mix in prints or pops of bright color, although sometimes a completely grey-scale outfit still calls out to me.

Shopping

Monochromatic from Piperlime.

Even though it's nowhere near Spring time where I live, I can't help but to daydream about brighter colors and shoes that aren't boots.

Reed Krakoff Pre-Fall 2012

I just got a french tipped manicure, but with black tips instead of white. I thought that this particular palette from the Reed Krakoff pre-fall 2012 collection would suit my nails quite well.

Everything here is just so right. Does anyone else love those gloves as much as I do?

Disruptive Pattarn Material Take Two

I have said it more than once, and I will continue to say it again, camouflage will always hold a special place in my heart. There is a lot of world history behind this subject matter. Disruptive Pattern Materials are the perfect combination of design and mathematics, reminding us just how brilliant mother nature can be. I am thankful that Guerreisms manages to capture images of individuals wearing this debatable print in such a respectable way.

Check out this post for even more camouflage eye-candy.

Stranger In A Strange Land

I am back to brag about how awesome this winter has been. Last Friday, I had about an hour and half of beautiful sunlight to enjoy after getting out of work. Tom and I drove to the beach and discovered the most surreal setting I have ever experienced. I don't know if it was the brilliant pink light, or the unseasonably warm smell in the air, but when I stepped onto the shore and turned to see the suddenly foreign looking moon in the sky, I felt as though I had left and gone to another planet.

Fortunately, Tom is a prepared photographer so he was able to snap off some pictures of this amazing new world. I mentioned before that I have been obsessed with colored denim lately, so this was also a great opportunity to show off my blue pair. They were the perfect pant for this lighting wouldn't you say? I only wish that I had thought to take off my coat so that I could have shown off my new motorcycle jacket. This outfit would have fit the sci-fi exploration theme much better if I had done that!

p.s. For those of you who aren't big nerds, I suggest looking into the literary reference of this post's title. You may actually enjoy it!

No They Are Not Raybans.

I never knew that Etsy was such a great source for shopping until I opened the Mostly Clothes shop a couple of months ago. I thought it was primarily a source for finding things like handmade potholders and hair scrunchies, but boy was I wrong! It turns out that it's really hard for me not to blow all my money in some of the best vintage shops I've ever seen. For example, I want pretty much everything at Vintage50sEyewear. The shop is nothing but vintage eyeglasses from all eras, and some of the price points start as low as $50. They even have a vintage pair of Dior sunglasses frames! Here are a few of my favorites...

I have worn glasses since the second grade so by the time I was in middle school I had really learned how to work them into my fashion identity. I started wearing thicker frames that had a vintage feel to them. My current pair is from Moscot, a company who has been representing classically "geek chic" frames long before the trend ever happened, so it kind of drives me nuts when everyone asks if they are Raybans. With "geekier" glasses frames being overly popular at the moment, going with a truly vintage pair is the best way to make the look your own. I know I'm going this route next time I visit the eye doctor!

Red Fish Blue Fish

I have been loving my colored denim (and oats) lately...

While working on a recipe article for a local magazine, I realized it was also the perfect time to show off some colored denim. After all what goes better with red denim, a loose knit cream colored sweater, and casual acid-wash sneakers than some overnight oatmeal?

As the title of this post indicates, I also have a bright blue pair in my closet as well. I consider the red to be more casual and earthy and the blue to be a bit dressier and tougher. I'm not sure what food should be paired with them, but the styling won't disappoint!

If you're feeling the need to participate in the colored denim bandwagon, check out some of these options... BDG Cigarette High-Rise Jeans in Cheddar, J Brand Mid-Rise Skinny Leg Jeans in Bright Royal, Rag and Bone Skinny Ankle Jean in Crimson, 7 for all mankind The Skinny Second Skin Legging in Amethyst, or The Limited's 678 Colorful Skinny Jean in either Red or Cobalt

I'm really liking the cheddar color. What's your fav?
