Ombré Nails

The ombré obsession continues! This time it comes in the form of nail art. I found an amazing tutorial, along with a new blog that's made its way to the top of my reading list, via Pinterest. I highly recommend that everyone gets their butts over to The Beauty Department at once so that you too can have nails like this!

Pretty nifty huh? The only thing I would do differently is choose a lighter color palette in preparation of Spring. I found that the key to getting the ombré effect just right was in applying multiple coats while allowing moderate drying time between each application. That and they weren't kidding when they said that clean-up would involve a paint brush. But don't take my word for it! Get over to The Beauty Department and try it for yourselves.

p.s. I'm going to be finishing the ombré shirt project over the next couple of days, so stop back in soon to see how that project ends up.

Ombré DIY Part One

I'm sure I'm not the only one out there that is totally obsessed with anything and everything ombré these days, so when I recently stumbled upon a Rit dye sale at the craft store it seemed rather obvious that it was time to make a shirt. It's at least a two step process, and while I have only completed step one, it seems to be working out so far.

My objective is to have a successful ombré from fuchsia to pale yellow. So far so good with the yellow! Tom has joined in on this little DIY project, and since he is the textile master, there is no doubt that his piece will destroy mine in the end.  Stay tuned for round two coming soon.

Shifting into Spring

I've been doing my best to shift into the Spring season, while also managing to stay appropriate considering the current temperatures. My heart wants nothing more than to start turning old denim into cutoffs, but my brain keeps saying, "Slow down high-speed!" The desire however to start bearing more skin is strong, so I've been compromising by wearing open-toed shoes and cropped, white denim. I have also been working some brighter colors and lighter jackets into the routine. Here are just a few pieces that are keeping me satiated for the time being.

I'm a little bit in love with prints right now, especially on shoes. My printed platforms have been perfect for adding a touch of spring to my wardrobe, even if my toes do get a little chilly. Nail polish is probably the easiest way to get started on a season without compromising body heat. I've shifted from dark purples and blues, to nudes and pale pinks. I have really been enjoying Essie's Multi Dimension top coat in "A Cut Above", along with a black french tip from time to time. The second easiest way to get a jump start on the next season is to switch up your handbag. I like cross body bags for Spring and Summer, and my current favorite is this smaller one I just picked up that can also be used as a large clutch. I just happen to have a bright scarf in an Ikat print to match. The bright, almost neon chartreuse, paired with a dark-washed jean jacket, a black tee, and skinny white jeans, feels like the perfect in-between weather outfit for me!

Light and Bright!

So I'm totally obsessed with thoughts of summer, festival style clothing, pastels, and chalked hair. You wouldn't know it since I never seem to blog about anything lately, but that is not for lack of obsession and the topic will be discussed at another time. For now, enjoy some images from LF's Spring 2012 Festival Lookbook.

Cutouts... prints... printed-cutoffs! If this doesn't get a girl excited for summer I don't know what will. I fell in love with LF's Coachella inspired lookbook the second I laid eyes on all those colors, especially the hair. I have an appointment to get my hair summer-fied next week, but I just don't know if I'm going to make it that long before chalking my entire head first. Anyone else feel like running away to California after catching site of this?
