Still Life; Biker Beach Babe

Even though it's officially summer, I'm still always trying to work boots into my outfit somehow, and since the weather actually cooled off for the past couple of days, I thought it would be a good time to share some outfit inspiration.

I recently picked up a super cheap pair of versatile, light weight suede boots, that are perfect for adding a touch of toughness to my otherwise beachy outfit. I could totally swap out the bag for this one, switch the studded belt with this one,  then add a couple of feathers somewhere, and I would be well on my way to living out my western fantasies. These boots are sold out as they are from last season, but if you are in need of some tough lady boots, may I recommend these Belle by Sigerson Morrison fringe booties, or these studded Steve Maddens

Glitter Nails; Like Stars In The Sky

It's been another long week! I have some amazing images to share from my trip last weekend with Tom, but since there is a surprise element that can't be revealed just yet, they are taking a little longer than usual to prep for viewing. So I guess you're just going to have to stay tuned for a couple of days!

Until then, I have some super simple nail art to share, along with a little sneak peak of things to come.

I was so inspired by some of the work that Tom did on our trip that I styled my next manicure after some of his images. The last picture here is a sneak peak of his latest project that I have been assisting him with, and I am blown away with the results. I really can't wait to share more.

As for my nails, I did the base coat of my nails with Sephora by O.P.I.'s Havana Dreams and the glitter is a top coat from Essie that can be found here. I happened to be wearing one of my favorite vintage rings, so I gave you guys a close up. That's a real scorpion set in glass, and it really makes me wish I was a Scorpio instead of a Taurus!

Altuzarra Resort; 2013

Happy early weekend to all! I am heading out of town with Tom for an outdoorsy, long weekend get-away, and in the spirit of vacation I thought I would share one of my newest favorite designer's resort collection. The reason that I like Joseph Altuzarra's resort collect for 2013 is because that it seems to embody a couple of trending elements that I am currently obsessed with. This collection contains a wonderful mixture of bold ethnic prints paired with southwestern and bohemian vibes, while still managing to maintain feminine and sleek silhouettes. I also love the structured folds in some of these pieces that add body to the collection, creating classic peplum waists. These are just a few of my favorite looks.

While I will not be donning anything nearly this glamorous over my short holiday, these looks will however be inspiring some of my outfit choices for the remainder of the summer.

If you are also loving these looks from Altuzarra and just can't wait to rock a similar trend, then I have a suggestion for you. My favorite prints for this season so far can be found on swimwear from Mara Hoffman. I personally enjoy this Inca Printed Bikini or this Maya Printed Triangle Bikini. A little more Southwestern than tribal, these prints are perfect for some summer fun.

Geek Chic; The Transit of Venus

These glasses aren't just for styling kicks! This past week really flew by, and while I'm not sure where most of my time actually went, one sliver of a magical moment will stand out in my mind forever. I'm talking about The Transit of Venus! This topic has no direct correlation to fashion, but I do find it to be a huge source of inspiration. (Hello? Christopher Kane's Resort 2011 collection?) This time that Tom and I spent with Venus and the Sun won't be happening again until 2117, so I felt the need to share some snaps of the perfect evening.

Thanks to my astronomically inclined boyfriend, we were able to see Venus (the largest black dot on the left-hand side of the sun) making its way through the sky by projecting a mirror image of the event through the eye piece of Tom's telescope onto a stiffened white board. We watched until the sun set behind some buildings, which also provided for some cool imagery.  This was truly a perfectly clear ending to a perfect evening, spent with the one person I love most in the world. How appropriate for Venus to have been the source of such a moment.

Well there you have it! If you are curious about how science and math can have an effect on fashion and design, you can stop by my "Mood #001" board on Pinterest.

Sunday Websurfing; Urban Cowgirl

It's Sunday and it's raining. What better way to spend a day like this than with a little web-window shopping, blog reading, and Pinning anything and everything inspirational to Pinterest? I started this particular board that I so thoughtfully titled "Mood #003"  forever ago. It started out with just a few pins and I didn't know why I was saving them, but recently it all came together and now I have the beginnings of what could be my theme for the summer. Last summer I never thought I would personally indulge in the Southwestern/Navajo vibe that was becoming pretty prevalent, but alas I'm jumping aboard the bandwagon. Maybe it's my recent desire to move out West, or perhaps my new found love for prints and bright colors, but whatever the reason I have found myself with a poncho, a couple of printed maxi-skirts, and most shocking of all, the desire to purchase some little cowboy booties. I personally blame Band of Outsiders F/W 2012 collection, which added an element of refinement (i.e. sans feathers in the hair) to the whole concept. Regardless, my new Board is beginning to grow and I like where it is headed.

Happy Sunday!
